district reminder

Putnam City Families and Staff,

As we approach the winter season, our state’s weather can be unpredictable, changing from street to street and minute to minute. We want to take this opportunity to explain how decisions are made to cancel school due to inclement weather and how we communicate those decisions.

Our top priority is the safety of students, teachers, and staff. We watch weather reports from the National Weather Service and regularly check conditions across our 42-mile District. Beginning around 3 AM, multiple departments drive bus routes to check roads, sidewalks, and school parking lots. Because the conditions can vary from one area to another in our District and from day to day, each decision is unique and made carefully. When possible, we aim to decide early so families can plan ahead.

When school stays open on cold days, outdoor activities, practices, games, and recess will not take place when the temperature or wind chill is below 32 degrees. Coaches will update their teams about any schedule changes.

If school is cancelled for the District, we will share the announcement through:

·       Phone, text, and email alerts

·       District Facebook and Instagram accounts

·       The District website

·       Push notifications through the Putnam City Schools app

·       Local TV stations

If your contact information has changed, please update it with your student’s school or the District Enrollment Office. You can download the Putnam City Schools app for Apple and Android devices by searching Putnam City Schools in the app store.

We know inclement weather closure decisions can bring excitement or frustration; therefore, we thank you in advance for your patience as we work to keep everyone safe.

At the time of this email, there is no District closure due to inclement weather.

Go Boldly,
Putnam City Schools
